Karl Urban’s Dredd will be scowling at potential lawbreakers in newsagents across the land from the cover of next month’s Empire magazine. The new issue is due to hit the shelves on Thurdsay, July 28th.
The latest issue – cover dated September 2011 – contains an in-depth article featuring several brand new photos from Dredd, including a couple of shots of Olivia Thirlby as Judge Anderson.
Thanks to chuffsteruk at the 2000AD Online forum for the image.
UPDATE: The cover posted above is the subscriber’s edition. The regular retail edition sees Dredd sharing cover space with a couple of little known spandex-clad fly-by-nights…
Lionsgate have officially set Dredd for release on 21 September 2012.
Originally announced on the 2000AD Online forum, the news was confirmed by Variety shortly afterwards.
A new image of Karl Urban as Dredd has surfaced on IM Global‘s website. The promo shot from the upcoming movie adaptation gives us a better look at old stoney-face’s uniform, including the much-debated eagle pad.
Thanks to CraveNoir at the 2000AD Online forum for the heads up!

The first teaser image of Karl Urban as everyone’s favourite fascist über-cop has surfaced for the upcoming big screen adaptation Dredd.
While the helmet is pretty much spot-on, the rest appears to have taken on a more paramilitary, riot-cop feel. There are a few nods to the original, though:
It’s a look that’s sure to divide fans, but look at it this way – Batman ditched his grey spandex in favour of high-tech body armour, and that didn’t hurt The Dark Knight, right?
Sometimes the internet is just a nice place to be. In what can only be described as 2000AD Online’s crowning moment of awesomeness, forum member Mark Howard (aka The Legendary Shark) has secretly pulled together fans and professional creators alike to produce a tribute comic/get well card for Carlos Ezquerra, who is recuperating after a lung cancer operation.

Mark had a physical copy of the finished product printed up and posted it off to an unsuspecting Carlos. Suffice to say, it went down well.
Such was the widespread impact of this amazing piece of work, plans are afoot for a second volume, to include submissions from all those that missed the boat first time round! More info here.

Karl Urban, has confirmed he is to play Judge Dredd in a TV interview in New Zealand. He told TV3 presenter Kate Rodger: “Yes, it’s true, I am the Law”.

Strontium Dog and Judge Dredd creator Carlos Ezquerra recently underwent an operation for lung cancer. Long-time friend and colleague John Wagner posted the following on his Facebook page:
Thought you’d like to know that Carlos Ezquerra, my old mate and long-time collaborator, has just come through an operation for lung cancer. He will be drawing on one lung from now on. I know he has a page on Facebook though I don’t know how to link you to it, should any of you wish to pass on your good wishes. For any who are still puffing away I know he (and I) would want to say think about giving it up. It isn’t really that hard. After a couple of days the addiction wears off. I know, I’ve done it. Many times. (But this time it’s for good!)
Carlos was quick to add the following over on the 2000AD Online forum:
Hi guys, this is Carlos, the Squirrel, Ezquerra… anyway, the guy with the moustache and cigar smoking (no anymore!) It’s my first time here and I don’t know where to write it, but I supposse this place is as good as any other.. As good friends and faithful fans over so many years I want to share with you my great victory over a lung cancer discover a month ago, so practically I am a born atheist again, they took away a lung but the rest survived, so from now on when you see 1L.J.S. it’ll mean 1lung John Silver. Cheers mates, you made my life worthwhile! Carlos
Strontiumdog.com would like to take this opportunity to wish Carlos a very speedy (and permanent) recovery!
